The trend of academy dealings between Manchester City and Southampton has been in favor of the south coast club, with several players making the move to Saint Mary’s for immediate first-team opportunities. However, this trend may be coming to an end, as reports suggest that Manchester City are now considering making a move for one of Southampton’s brightest prospects.

According to SkySports , Southampton academy star Jimmy-Jay Morgan has informed the club that he wants to leave, after rejecting their offer of a first professional contract. As a result, Manchester City, Arsenal, and Leeds United are now reportedly assessing the possibility of signing the 17-year-old, who is also an England youth international and regularly trains with the Southampton first-team squad.

Morgan has already made a name for himself at such a young age, earning a place on the bench for Carabao Cup ties against Manchester City and Sheffield Wednesday, as well as the FA Cup third round clash with Crystal Palace. Primarily known as a winger, but also capable of playing as a striker, Morgan has scored a total of six goals in eight games for England’s under-17 squad, as well as four goals in eight Premier League 2 games for Southampton B this season.

Manchester City has an excellent track record when it comes to developing talented attacking players within their academy system, which could be a deciding factor for Morgan as he weighs his options among the three potential suitors. With the ongoing season coming to a close, it will be interesting to see where Morgan ultimately decides to take his career.
