Manchester City is reportedly making Julian Alvarez their priority in their upcoming round of contract talks with the senior team.

The Mirror reports that the club is seeking to tie down their most frequent players to improved contracts and Alvarez, the Argentine international, is first in line for a new deal. The 23-year-old attacker has been a prolific forward for Pep Guardiola’s side in his first year in England and has impressed with his performance, especially given the shadow of Erling Haaland.

While Haaland has stolen the headlines this season for his record-breaking performances, Alvarez has been allowed to thrive away from the attention and spotlight.

Many City fans have tipped the attacker to become the club’s long-term center-forward, and prioritizing Alvarez over other stars such as Kevin De Bruyne and Nathan Ake speaks volumes about how much the Manchester side wants to keep the South American attacker around for the long haul.

The young forward played a key role in Argentina’s 2022 FIFA World Cup triumph last year in Qatar, and it is a smart decision from City to try to tie him down to a new contract so soon after officially becoming a player for the Manchester giants.

The Premier League’s bombshell statement at the start of the month has left an air of uncertainty around City, yet with the Manchester side going about their business as usual, future-proofing the squad is now on Guardiola’s mind.

Signing players like Alvarez to new contracts is a wise move from the Etihad Stadium side to protect their most valuable assets.

The Argentine is a player who could stick around in Manchester for quite some time, and with nobody sure what will happen to City in the coming months following their Premier League breaches, it is an intelligent move to secure the future of their top talents.
