Manchester City, the reigning Premier League champions, have been hit with a series of charges by the English top-flight over alleged violations of Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations. The charges stem from a four-year investigation that covers a period of nine seasons, from 2009/10 to 2017/18.

The allegations center around alleged breaches of player and manager contracts and the remuneration declared in the club’s financial accounts. In addition, the club has been charged with failing to cooperate with the investigation carried out by an independent commission, which took place between 2018-19 and the current season.

Moreover, the Premier League has charged City with breaching Uefa regulations, after the club was found to have breached Club Licensing and FFP regulations in Europe. These latest developments are a significant blow to the Manchester outfit, which has won six Premier League titles since the Abu Dhabi-led takeover in 2008.

As one of the most successful clubs in England, Manchester City will now face a race against time to defend itself against these charges and maintain its status as one of the top teams in the country. The outcome of this investigation will have major implications for the club’s future and its reputation within the sport.
