A recent report suggests that Manchester City’s interest in Brentford’s Aaron Hickey has been sparked by Ben Chilwell’s contract renewal with Chelsea.
Manchester City has reportedly set their sights on Brentford’s Aaron Hickey as they seek reinforcements for their left-back position. With Joao Cancelo’s departure to Bayern Munich in January and a lack of a natural presence in the role, City is expected to invest in a new left-back, among other positions. However, the recent contract renewal of Chelsea’s Ben Chilwell has led City officials to explore other options, including Hickey.
According to a report by Alan Nixon , City is “ready to swoop” for the Scotland international full-back, who would be a part of a defensive revamp under Pep Guardiola’s guidance. Nixon also reveals that Brentford is “braced for bids” as City is said to be “hot on the trail” of Hickey, who would be eager to play for the reigning Premier League champions.
Hickey is a young talent, having made his professional debut at the age of 16 for Heart of Midlothian. He moved to Bologna in 2020 before joining Brentford on loan in January. He has impressed at Brentford, helping them impress in the Premier League.
City’s pursuit of Hickey is a clear indication of their intention to bolster their defensive options this summer. With Pep Guardiola at the helm, they will be looking to build a squad capable of challenging for domestic and European honours in the coming seasons.
