Former Manchester United skipper Wayne Rooney is said to be bemused by Cristiano Ronaldo’s criticism of him during his interview with Piers Morgan.

Rooney is obviously not one of those who think Ronaldo should be starting games at Man United, although he acknowledged that the Portuguese star is one of the best players in the history of football.

The former England international has regularly told his old club to part ways with Cristiano Ronaldo as he believes the 37-year-old’s inability to press makes Manchester United’s attack blunt, hence resulting in poor performers.

Rooney did not only tell Manchester United to sign a younger striker to replace the five-time Ballon d’Or but also described the former Real Madrid forward on talkSPORT as a ‘distraction’ that United do not want.

Ronaldo has hit back at his former team-mate, claiming that Rooney feels jealous of him because he’s still playing at top level at 37 years of age while he retired at the age of 35.

“I don’t know why he criticises me so badly… probably because he finished his career and I’m still playing at high level,” Ronaldo told Piers Morgan.

“I’m not going to say that I’m looking better than him. Which is true…”

According to Rob Dorsett via Sky Sports, Wayne Rooney is bemused by Cristiano Ronaldo‘s criticism of him. Rooney has always maintained Ronaldo is one of the world’s two best players, but at his age and at a club the size of Manchester United he has to accept the situation and not expect to play every minute.

The journalist claimed that Wayne Rooney will not publicly speak on the Cristiano Ronaldo situation and has no animosity towards him.
