Chelsea FC’s pursuit of young right-back Malo Gusto has hit a roadblock, as Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has announced that the player will be staying with the French club at least until the end of the current season.

The Blues were reportedly looking to bring in Gusto, who is similar in style and attributes to their own player Reece James, to provide competition for the latter, who has been plagued by injuries this season. Despite Chelsea’s interest, Aulas has now made it clear that Gusto is not for sale.

“I can confirm that Malo Gusto will be staying here at Lyon until the end of the season,” Aulas announced on Thursday via Twitter.

Gusto, who is only 19 years old, made his debut for Lyon in 2021, and has since made 15 appearances in Ligue 1 this season. He still has 18 months left on his contract with the club.

This news will come as a disappointment to Chelsea FC, who are currently sitting at the tenth place in the Premier League table, as they look to strengthen their squad for the second half of the season and push for a top-four finish.
