Luke Shaw admits he’s really enjoying his new role as a centre-back at Manchester United, thanks to the absences of Martinez and Maguire.

Luke Shaw has admitted that he loves his new role as a centre-back and confessed that he’s keen to play in any position Erik ten Hag wants him to play.

Shaw played as a centre-back next to Raphael Varane against Nottingham Forest and Wolves and kept two clean sheets, and raised ideas that he should continue in his new role against Bournemouth on Tuesday, although Harry Maguire and Lisandro Martinez are fit for the game.

The England international had the chance to play next to Varane at the expenses of Maguire and Martinez, who were both not fit for the matches.

However, both centre-backs are fit to play against Bournemouth but Shaw hasn’t ruled out the chances of maintaining his centre-back role alongside Varane this weekend.

“We’ve got a lot of world-class centre-backs here, but I’m not going to lie I’ve been really enjoying it. It’s something very different and something I’ve not experienced before,” Shaw told MU. “I’ve played at centre-back but in a three and it is totally different.

“The manager has needed me to play there [at centre-back] and I’m happy to play wherever, as long as I’m on that pitch. It always helps when you’ve got someone with the world-class ability next to me like Varane.”
