Lisandro Martinez has joined many football fans, players, pundits and coaches in hailing Lionel Messi as the greatest of all time, ahead of the Argentine’s direct rival, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Martinez joined Manchester United from Ajax over the summer and has quickly become one of the most liked players at Old Trafford, thanks to the fighting spirit and determination he regularly brings into games.

The former Ajax defender had played alongside Cristiano Ronaldo at the Theatre of Dreams for a couple of months but still believes his compatriot, Messi, is the greatest ever.

Messi is touted as one of the best performers in the ongoing 2022 World Cup in Qatar, having scored three goals and provided one assist in four games so far.

The former Barcelona forward scored one goal as Argentina beat Australia 2-1 in the round of 16 to proceed to the quarter-final of the World Cup.

Lisandro Martinez, who impressed as a second-half substitute against Australia, says he feels ‘extremely proud’ to play alongside Messi.

“To see Lionel Messi giving everything on the pitch… I get goosebumps,” said Martinez. “As a teammate you give everything for him. He is the greatest of them all. To have him as my teammate makes me extremely proud.”
