Chelsea becoming champions last season saw some bookmakers make a profit, but they would be hit by more than £5m loss if Leicester City claims the crown this year. The biggest bet placed on Leicester City with an online bookmaker was £40 at 5000/1 in mid-August, meaning one punter to win £200,000.
Andrew, 52, will make £33k if Leicester wins the title, or £8k if they finish runner-up. The Foxes fan told Sportsmail: “Every year I place a bet on Leicester to win the league they are in. When they won the Championship I won £140 and so when they were promoted to the Premier League, I placed the same £5 each-way bet at 5000/1. I also put on a bet Leicester finishing in the top four (£5 at 500/1 to make £2,500). I am very confident at that bet coming in but as to winning the Premier League, well let’s just see”.
Leicester’s relegation odds were trimmed from 5.50 to 3.75 before the beginning of the season and around £1,000 was collectively bet on them to go down to the Championship.
We’ve already reported that the odds on Leicester City to win the title have been cut after their triumph over Manchester City last weekend.
