Real Madrid are said to be in the market for a new midfielder and reports suggest that Inter Milan’s Marcelo Brozovic could be the man to fill the shoes of the legendary Luka Modric. The Croat has long been held in high regard by his compatriot Modric and has been on the radar of several European clubs in the current transfer window.

Barcelona have also been mentioned as a possible destination for the midfielder, however, it is now reported that Real Madrid are one of the front-runners in the race to secure his services. The Italian club are said to be willing to let Brozovic go at the end of the season, with an asking price of €30 million.

This price tag may prove to be a stumbling block for the European champions, as they are also said to be interested in Jude Bellingham, and with a transfer fee of close to €150 million for the Englishman, it remains to be seen whether they will be able to afford the additional expense of bringing Brozovic to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Barcelona’s interest in Brozovic is reportedly as a replacement for their captain Sergio Busquets, and Chelsea are also said to be monitoring the situation. Juventus were also said to be interested, but their recent sanctions have forced them to pull out of the race.

It is clear that Brozovic is a highly sought-after player, and with his contract at Inter Milan running until 2026, it is likely that he will have no shortage of suitors.

Whether Real Madrid can afford to bring him to the club remains to be seen, but it is clear that finding a like-for-like replacement for Modric will be a tough task for the Madridistas.
