Jurgen Klopp provided injury update on Dutch defender Virgil Van Dijk after the 31 year old was out of action against Chelsea.
Liverpool’s much-awaited game against Chelsea ended in a stalemate on Sunday, with the Reds missing their key defender, Virgil Van Dijk. Despite the absence of the Dutchman, the Reds managed to hold Chelsea to a goalless draw.
After the game, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp spoke to Sky Sports about Van Dijk’s availability for the upcoming fixture against league leaders Arsenal. Klopp assured fans that the defender should be fit to play against the Gunners, stating, “I think he will be ready for the weekend, yes.”
According to reports by The Athletic , Van Dijk missed Liverpool’s trip to Stamford Bridge due to an illness that prevented him from training ahead of the fixture. However, the 31-year-old defender is expected to return to the starting lineup when Liverpool host Arsenal at Anfield.
As Arsenal looks to clinch their first title in 19 years, Sunday’s fixture could be a massive opportunity for them to make history, having failed to beat Liverpool away from home since 2012.
With Van Dijk back in contention, the Reds will undoubtedly have a more solid defense to counter Arsenal’s offensive firepower.
