Liverpool are expected to completely overhaul their midfield over the summer, with the midfield receiving a lot of flak for their recent poor results.

Naby Keita’s contract with Liverpool expires at the end of the season, and he is expected to leave on a free transfer, with an extension unlikely.

The midfielder joined the Reds from RB Salzburg in 2018 for a fee of £52.75 million, but the move has never worked out and has certainly not justified the fee.

Keita was a regular in his first season at Liverpool, making 33 appearances across all competitions as Liverpool won the Champions League, but the Guinea international was ruled out of the final due to injury.

Fitness issues have plagued him throughout his time in England, and he has been frequently sidelined, despite the fact that the 25 Premier League appearances he made in his first season have never been surpassed.

Keita made 40 appearances for Liverpool last season, scoring four goals as they reached the finals of the Champions League, FA Cup, and Carabao Cup, but he has fallen out of favour this season, starting just two Premier League games.

According to Sky Sports Germany, his time at Anfield is coming to an end, with a new contract unlikely to be signed.

According to the report, there is a lot of interest in Keita on a free transfer, and he could return to the Bundesliga.

Liverpool are expected to completely overhaul their midfield over the summer, with the midfield receiving a lot of flak for their recent poor results.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is also expected to leave, as is James Milner, as both England internationals’ contracts expire this summer.

While three free transfers will not add to the transfer budget, they will free up a significant portion of the wage bill as the Reds look to invest in younger, more dynamic midfield options.
