Former Chelsea captain and club legend John Terry has denied any involvement in the appointment of Graham Potter as manager at Stamford Bridge.

Despite previously expressing admiration for Potter during his time at Brighton, Terry took to Instagram last week to clarify that he had no say in the decision-making process.

When asked by a follower if he had pushed for Potter to replace Thomas Tuchel, Terry replied: “Absolutely not. I tweeted that I enjoyed watching Brighton play and appreciated their style, but I have no influence on the first team. I am currently working with the Under 18s and 21s and am happy in my role.”

Chelsea’s lackluster performance this season, currently sitting ninth in the Premier League, has raised questions about the club’s ability to attract top talent in the future. Potter’s side is ten points outside the top four and their chances of securing Champions League football for next season are dwindling.

Despite the team’s poor form and lack of assurance, Potter remains confident in the progress being made. After a 1-1 draw with West Ham, he stated: “I saw positives in our performance, especially in the first half. It was a step forward from our previous game and we have a lot to build on.”

Chelsea welcome struggling Southampton to the Stamford Bridge as they look to keep their season alive.
