Liverpool’s recent poor form is causing concern among fans and pundits alike, and former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has suggested that their woes may continue in their upcoming match against his old club. The Reds will play their first home fixture since their 7-0 thrashing of Manchester United on March 5th, but their last win in any competition was that same game.

Jurgen Klopp’s side suffered a crushing 4-1 defeat against Manchester City and were then held to a goalless draw by Chelsea on Tuesday. They currently sit in eighth place in the Premier League table, 10 points adrift of the top four.

In contrast, Arsenal have gone unbeaten in their last seven Premier League games, winning all of them, and sit 29 points ahead of Liverpool in the table. The reverse fixture between the two sides saw the Reds beaten 3-2 at the Emirates Stadium back in October.

Speaking on his Podcast , Wright expressed disappointment at Liverpool’s recent performances, stating that their defeat to Manchester City was “quite embarrassing”. However, he believes that Arsenal have the energy and capabilities to cause problems for Liverpool and potentially secure a win at Anfield, although he acknowledges that it will be a challenging task.

“Liverpool’s performance away to Man City was disappointing because it felt like an old champion going back into the ring,” said the former Arsenal striker.

“For a couple of rounds, it looked like they were back but then they were gone after the first punch. Man City just steamrolled them and it was quite embarrassing for Liverpool in the end.

“I think Arsenal have the energy and the capabilities to cause Liverpool problems. It’s a question of how long we can sustain it at Anfield because that’s not something we’ve done for a while there.

“Can we sustain the pressure you need so Liverpool don’t go bang, bang, bang? That’s what I’m excited to see.

Wright is excited at the prospect of Arsenal beating Liverpool, stating that these are the “huge games in a title race” and that it is “the time to attack them and get them to answer some questions”.

“If we can beat them – which I think we can – then I’m starting to get very excited. I’m excited as it is but these are the huge games in a title race.

“I think Arsenal can do it, I’m confident Arsenal can do it. It’s so exciting. I can already feel the buzz around that game. With what’s going on at Liverpool, it’s the time to attack them and get them to answer some questions.

His confidence in Arsenal’s ability to succeed in this match is palpable, and he has no doubt that it will be an exciting and eagerly anticipated game.
