Chelsea suffered a 1-0 defeat against Borussia Dortmund in Germany last night, as the two teams clashed in the UEFA Champions League. While the result may have gone in favour of the home side, it was by no means a one-sided affair.

Chelsea put on an impressive display and were unlucky to have missed numerous clear-cut chances that could have sealed their victory. However, they have another shot at redemption, as the two teams will now go head to head in the second leg of the competition, set to take place at Stamford Bridge.

Despite concerns about the time it will take for the new Chelsea players to gel together, midfielder Kai Havertz is optimistic. In his post-match interview, he stated that the team is improving and building chemistry, and that the match against Dortmund was a step forward in that direction.

Havertz said: “We have had a lot of new players join in this window and I think you can definitely see us improving and getting that chemistry with one another now.”

Havertz also acknowledged that Chelsea should have done better in terms of converting their opportunities, but emphasized the need to focus on building upon the positives from the game. He maintained that the team is on the right track, and they will be looking to improve upon their shortcomings in the next game.

“This was another step forward, even though we lost. The result wasn’t what we wanted, but I think we showed some good signs — especially in the second half — and we need to build on that.

“I don’t think we should be too unhappy with our performance because we created the opportunities, but it’s just frustrating that we couldn’t take any of them. We have to look at that and try to improve on that front.”

Chelsea will have to bring their A-game to the table in the upcoming match against Dortmund, but with their strong showing in the first leg, they remain in contention to advance in the competition.

It will be interesting to see how they fare, especially given their recent struggles on the domestic front. Regardless, the team and their supporters will be hoping for a positive result, as they look to cement their place among Europe’s elite.
