The company officially left Formula 1 at the end of 2021 but continues to supply power plants to the Red Bull and Alpha Tauri teams. Since this season, the engines have been used under the Red Bull Powertrains brand.

Honda was already the title sponsor of the 2018 home event. In the past two seasons, F-1 races at Suzuka have not been held due to the coronavirus pandemic. The track is owned by a subsidiary of Honda.

The 2022 Japanese Grand Prix will take place from October 7 to 9.
