Since Todd Boehly took over as Chelsea owner from Roman Abramovich in the summer, the club has struggled on the pitch despite investing over £350 million on transfers. Boehly’s decision to replace Thomas Tuchel with Potter as head coach has not yet paid off, as the club currently sits in 10th place in the Premier League and has been eliminated from both domestic cup competitions.

Fans have expressed their dissatisfaction, with some even singing Tuchel’s name during a recent 4-0 loss to Manchester City in the FA Cup. Potter acknowledged the challenges of the transition in ownership and leadership, stating, “Change is challenging in any organization…we have to deal with the ‘new’ now. We have to build things up again because things have changed, things have gone and things have left.”

Potter also mentioned the difficulty of the situation, with nine first-team players currently unavailable due to injury. However, the club did make a significant signing on Wednesday, with Portugal international Joao Felix joining on loan from Atletico Madrid.

Despite the challenges, Potter remains focused on moving forward and building a strong foundation for the club. “I think this is probably the hardest job in football,” he said. “Because of the leadership change and because of the expectations and, rightly, where people see Chelsea…The previous ownership, it’s fantastic what they achieved. But this is a new era, a new chapter. Yeah, we’re going through some pain, it’s difficult at the moment. I understand the frustration and I appreciate the support.”
