Manchester United’s midfielder, Fred, exudes confidence ahead of the eagerly awaited FA Cup final against arch-rivals Manchester City. With Pep Guardiola’s side on the brink of a historic treble, having secured the Premier League title and a place in the Champions League final against Inter Milan on June 10th, their clash with United on June 3rd carries immense significance.

Despite City’s overwhelming dominance in the league, Fred remains undeterred and holds a contrasting belief. Referencing United’s earlier triumph over City at Old Trafford in January, where goals from Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford sealed a memorable 2-1 victory, the Brazilian midfielder sees it as a pivotal moment heading into the forthcoming final.

In an interview with FourFourTwo, Fred acknowledged City’s status as one of the most formidable teams in the world, playing under the guidance of the outstanding coach, Pep Guardiola, and achieving numerous titles with their distinctive style of play. Their ability to control possession poses a significant challenge for any opponent. However, Fred firmly believes that defeating City is not an insurmountable task, drawing confidence from United’s victory at home, with Erling Haaland contributing to the triumph.

“From my point of view, Manchester City play the best football in the world at the moment,” the Brazilian international said . “Under Pep Guardiola, an outstanding coach, they’ve won loads of titles with a very clear playing style.

“They know how to maintain possession – it’s so tough to face them. But it’s not impossible. We lost when we played them away this season, but we beat them at home, with Haaland on the pitch.”

When questioned about the daunting prospect of containing Haaland, who recently shattered the Premier League record for most goals in a single season, Fred remained composed and unfazed. While acknowledging Haaland as the world’s premier forward at present, the Brazilian midfielder proudly declared the prowess of Manchester United and their ability to deliver exceptional performances. He firmly asserted that if United can showcase their best football on the day, there is no reason why they cannot emerge victorious in the upcoming final.

“Yes, I agree that he’s the world’s best forward right now, but we’re Manchester United, and if we’re able to play our best football then I don’t see why we can’t win.”

Manchester City have their eyes on the Treble as they also find themselves in the final of the Uefa Champions League.
