Frank Lampard has admitted that Chelsea’s excessively large squad has been the main issue he has encountered during his time as the interim manager.
In his tenure, the team managed only one victory in 11 matches, suffering eight defeats and concluding with a 1-1 draw against Newcastle at home.
It is suggested that the club will be selling several players during the summer transfer window.
Lampard believes that such actions are necessary for the Blues to bounce back from a disappointing season, and he attributes the poor performances to players being uncertain about their future at the club.
“It’s hard to compete at this level if some players are in that sort of middle ground – and too many are and that’s been a thing,” the interim manager said after the Premier League finale against Newcastle.
“So maybe getting to the end of it now is a good thing, whether someone has their eye on somewhere else, or the club want them to leave or they want to leave – all these things – now we get to the bottom of it quickly.”
