At Manchester United he blew £60,000, at Newcastle United £1.2 million and lost £3.5 million when playing for Blackburn. According to the memoirs of Gillespie, he would bet on many sports, including horse and greyhound racing.

The 40-year-old former midfielder has fought the addiction and doesn’t bet more than 20 pounds at a time. Gillespie regrets his addiction and understands how more comfortable his life would be without it. He’s written a book, ‘How not to be a football millionaire,’ where he tells his life story.
