Arsenal are reportedly eyeing up a move for Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia, according to recent transfer rumors. The 19-year-old Belgian has been a standout performer in the Premier League this season and his potential has not gone unnoticed by bigger clubs.

If Southampton were to be relegated this season, it is likely that Lavia would look to move to a bigger club, and Arsenal could be an ideal destination for the promising youngster.

With Mikel Arteta keen to inject some youthful energy into the Gunners’ midfield, Lavia would provide a fresh option to replace aging stars such as Granit Xhaka, Thomas Partey, and Jorginho.

However, despite the reported interest, exclusive CaughtOffside column has downplayed the links between Arsenal and Lavia. Romano pointed out that Manchester City have a buy-back clause for the midfielder, set at a whopping £40 million. This gives an indication of the high valuation placed on Lavia’s head, making any potential transfer costly for the Gunners.

“Nothing has changed for Romeo Lavia, at the moment,” Romano explained. “It’s normal to see big clubs linked because he’s a top talent but there’s nothing concrete at this stage.

“It’s fair to remember that Man City have £40m buy back clause for Lavia, so value has to be higher for sure.”

At this stage, there is nothing concrete to suggest that Lavia will make a move to Arsenal or any other top club. It remains to be seen whether Southampton will retain their Premier League status, and if they do not, it could weaken their negotiating position for Lavia’s potential transfer.

Nonetheless, Arsenal fans will undoubtedly be keeping a close eye on Lavia’s progress and any developments regarding his future.
