Despite being turned off by the World Cup, Erling Haaland is preparing a kind greeting for Julian Alvarez.
Haaland, who is regarded as the biggest sports hero in Norway, was furious that his team didn’t make it to the world’s biggest football tournament and was keen to represent his nation in Qatar.
The 22-year-old wanted to be creating news on the other side of the globe, while Manchester City would be pleased that he had the opportunity to rest after a recent injury.
The City No. 9 was happy to see his club teammate Alvarez win the trophy. A tournament which saw Alvarez replace Lautaro Martinez in Argentina’s starting lineup, and also made the start in the final against France as the competition came to an exciting conclusion.
While he shared his views on being left out of the world cup, he did not hold back his joy about his teammate winning the trophy. He said:
“It’s a bummer not playing there when you can see your friends and team-mates playing and talking about it afterwards, What can I do? I have to try to get Norway there next time and enjoy the time I wasn’t playing.”
“of course, it stings, it stings watching every game from the couch at home. People scoring and winning games. It stings but it’s the way it is. But I’m happy for Alvarez, I’m going to give him a big hug when I see him.” he added.
Alvarez is expected to return to City soon after taking some time off to rejoice and unwind before traveling back to Manchester. When he does, he can count on his striking partner to put his own World Cup disappointments behind him.
