Erik ten Hag has refused to confirm whether or not Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez will be available for selection against Nottingham Forest on Tuesday in the Premier League.
Man United are back in Premier League action next week when they host struggling Nottingham Forest at Old Trafford but they could be without a number of first team players.
Harry Maguire is a doubt for the game due to an illness that ruled him out of United’s 2-0 win over Burnley on Wednesday in the Carabao Cup.
Both Varane and Martinez are doubts for the game as both are expected to return to Carrington next week unless they cut their holidays short.
Varane and Martinez both reached the World Cup final in Qatar and for this reason, they are not expected at Manchester until next week, which has limited their chances of featuring against Nottingham Forest.
Speaking about both defenders, Ten Hag said of Martinez: “He [Martinez] is still celebrating now in Buenos Aires now, going around in the touring car!
“Going around in Buenos Aires and I can understand it, it is very emotional when you achieve this World Cup success in your country.
“It’s magnificent, it [winning the World Cup] is the highest that you can achieve [in football]. Licha also has to understand that on December 27, the Premier League is back.”
Speaking about Raphael Varane, the Dutchman added: “He [Varane] is disappointed, as anybody would be after losing the World Cup final. I think he can also be proud [to have played] again in the final, with all that he has achieved in his football career.”
