Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag was pleased with his side’s display against Newcastle United although he admitted United could have won the game.

Man United created the best chances of the game and should have easily won the tie but poor finishing played their roles and the clash had to end in a goalless draw at Old Trafford.

Some fans weren’t pleased with United’s display, given no goals were scored regardless of the chances created, but Ten Hag was pleased with his side’s collective performance.

The Dutchman was also happy with his side’s resilience to remain at top level until the final whistle, given the fact that they played against Omonia two days earlier.

Speaking after the game, Ten Hag said: “The performance was good, a clean sheet, we pressed well, we controlled the game and in stages we were good on the ball – especially in the second half. Then, we dictated the game and in the end we could – we should – have score the winning goal. One from Fred, and then [Marcus] Rashford had to score.”

“In the end we could have got the win, we deserved the win. It’s a big compliment to the team that we deserved this with a physical performance against one of the most physical teams in the league. They [Newcastle players] all had cramp and we kept going.”

Manchester United will host Tottenham at Old Trafford next week in the Premier League and it will come as a chance to bounce back to winning ways.

The Red Devils have only managed 16 points from their opening nine league matches.
