Erik ten Hag has reacted to Manchester United’s win over Everton, as he heaps praise on Casemiro, who got his first Premier League start since his summer arrival.

Ten Hag decided to start Casemiro against Everton on Sunday night after the former Real Madrid man performed brilliantly against Omonia in the midweek.

The Brazil international provided an assist as Manchester United beat stubborn Everton 2-1 at the Goodison Park.

Erik ten Hag was pleased with the 30-year-old midfielder’s man of the match performance and revealed how he helped United beat the Toffees.

“We saw during the game how important he [Casemiro] is. He’s composed, winning a lot of balls, winning also the ball for the goal of Cristiano Ronaldo. Good performance,” Ten Hag told BT Sport.

Manchester United went behind early in the game as a result of Alex Iwobi’s opener but they quickly took charge of the game following decent goals from Antony and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Erik ten Hag has admitted that he loves the mentality the Red Devils put out after they had gone behind early in the game.

“We were quickly 1-0 down, but the reaction of the team was good. Also, one of our aims [is to] deal better with set-backs. They stayed composed, the first 35 minutes were quite impressive,” said the Dutchman.

“We were happy with all the subs, Ronaldo got the winning goal and Varane showed his importance with his organisation and heading capacity.”
