Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag and striker Marcus Rashford were pleased with Alejandro Garnacho’s performance against Aston Villa.

Garnacho received loads of plaudits after he came on midway through the second half and provided two assists that helped Man United stage a comfortable 4-2 win over Villa.

His notably performance came after he scored the only goal to help Manchester United beat Real Sociedad 1-0 in Spain in the Europa League.

Erik ten Hag is convinced Garnacho will be an important player in his squad but admits the player’s attitude will decide whether or not he’ll improve.

On if Garnacho can make a meaningful impact this season, the Dutchman said: “Depends on his approach and his attitude. When he keeps working and has attitude he wants to improve every day, it is possible.”

On Garnacho’s performance, Erik ten Hag added: “I think it was good that also when he [Garnacho] came on that he showed performance that he has an impact in the game.

“Quite clear, with two assists, some good dribbles, runs behind, but also some things he has to improve.

“For instance, when we go for the long ball, don’t go for the header with Scott McTominay, go for the second ball.”

Marcus Rashford is convinced that Alejandro Garnacho can be an important player in the team and warned rivals that his performance against Aston Villa is the first of many to come.

On Alejandro Garnacho, Rashford said: “He’s full of energy and confidence. It’s refreshing to have someone like that on the bench, who can come on and make a big impact.

“It’s just the start for him. There’s a lot more goals to come.”

Manchester United will face Burnley in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup after they knocked out Aston Villa on Thursday night.
