UFC fighter Dustin Poirier revealed why he decided to challenge welterweight Colby Covington.
“I don’t have a particular hatred for anyone, but Colby is at the head of the queue for my hatred. I really don’t like this guy and I don’t want him to make even a dollar from fighting me.
I was offered a fight with him last week. I would have to wait until the end of the year to get a lightweight contender to fight or fight Colby at welterweight in July and that was the name they gave me.
So it wasn’t a challenge and I’m not going to go out of my way to get into a fight with him. I don’t have a big desire to fight Covington and I don’t want him to benefit from it, but if I have no other options to get a fight before the end of the year, I’ll have to do it.
I don’t want to sit on standby because the last fight was in December, which is potentially 10-11 months of inactivity.
I am healthy and I want to fight,” Poirier said.
Dustin Poirier vs Nate Diaz at #UFC277 on July 30th in Dallas?! Both @DustinPoirier & @NateDiaz209 have said they want to fight on this date. Do you think fight will finally happen or will the UFC give them different opponents. ? pic.twitter.com/H3LK8GJlUt
