Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo has reacted after Erik ten Hag refused to bring him on during the Manchester City game at the Etihad in the Premier League.

After Man United lost their opening two league games against Brighton & Hove Albion, Ten Hag made some changes to his team and it paid off after he won the next four league games.

Manchester United’s winning run would meet it’s end at the Etihad when Pep Guardiola’s men smashed United 6-3.

City led 4-0 at half-time after a poor collective performance from Erik ten Hag’s side. It was obvious Manchester United needed a change in the front line as they were already massively behind but Ten Hag raised many eyebrows when he resisted the temptation to bring Cristiano Ronaldo on.

The Dutchman brought Anthony Martial, who only came back from injury, but the gamble on the Frenchman paid off when he scored twice late in the game.

After the thrashing, Ten Hag said he left Cristiano Ronaldo on the bench out of respect he has for the Portuguese star’s huge career.

Ronaldo has hit back, insisting that the manager was only making excuses of not bringing him on against City.

Speaking to Piers Uncensored, he said: “Excuses, I see as excuses. I saw many things that, I don’t want to criticise him. He can have different opinion than me. They choose the players that they think is better for the team.

“Okay, you don’t put me against Manchester City because of respect of your career and you want to put me three minutes against Tottenham. It doesn’t make sense…”
