RB Leipzig forward Christopher Nkunku is reportedly heading to Chelsea at the end of the season following a successful medical in September
RB Leipzig forward Christopher Nkunku is increasingly likely to join Chelsea at the end of the season after he reportedly did his medical in Frankfurt in September, according to reports.
Having allowed Romelu Lukaku to join Inter Milan on loan and Timo Werner to seal a permanent return to RB Leipzig, the Blues were in great need of their replacements.
Former boss Thomas Tuchel successfully replaced Werner with ex-Manchester City star Raheem Sterling but didn’t have enough time in the transfer market to sign Lukaku’s replacement.
According to Christian Falk, Christopher Nkunku underwent a medical check in Frankfurt this month and he’s now on course to seal a move to Chelsea next summer.
The idea behind Nkunku’s early medical with the Blues is to ensure Chelsea have an agreement with the player and the Bundesliga club before his release clause of €60M will be triggered.
Manchester United were also one of the clubs interested in the France international but following a recent update, Graham Potter’s Blues are in pole position to sign the forward.
Nkunku has scored six goals in 11 appearances in all competitions this season so far. Last season, he was voted as the Bundesliga Player of the Year after notching a whopping 20 goals in 33 league games.
The Frenchman recently confirmed that they were clubs interested for his services last summer.
Some weeks back, Nkunku said: “It’s no secret. There are clubs interested in me.
“Yes it’s flattering, but it’s also flattering to have a club like Leipzig do everything to keep me as well.
“I’ll have to reflect and make a decision. The World Cup is on the way and that’s another factor to take into account.”
