Christopher Nkunku has joined France’s long list of injured players when he limped off during training with the French national team.
Sadly, RB Leipzig and France forward Christopher Nkunku will miss the 2022 World Cup in Qatar after he came out injured during training.
The Leipzig forward was called up to the France national team for the World Cup in Qatar by Didier Deschamps, thanks to his sparkling performances at club level.
Nkunku has been scoring goals for fun this season in the Bundesliga and Champions League and was on the scoreboard when Leipzig beat Real Madrid 3-1 in the UCL group stage.
He was set on becoming one of the players to watch in the World Cup but sadly, his dream has cut short when he limped off during a light training, following a contact with Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga.
According to L’Euipe, Christopher Nkunku was forced off injured after a challenge with Camavinga during the last minute of Les Bleus training at Clairefontaine.
After some contradictory rumours, L’Euipe reports: “Injured in training, Christopher Nkunku must give up participating in the World Cup. The whole group shares Christopher’s sadness and wishes him a speedy recovery. “ Nkunku will have been the victim, in the shock, of a sprain of the left knee. “
Nkunku has joined the likes of Paul Pogba and N’Golo Kante to miss the World Cup due to injury issues while the likes of Raphael Varane and Karim Benzema are still struggling with fitness.
Yes, France can still announce his replacement as long as the Les Bleus haven’t played their first 2022 World Cup game against Australia.
L’Equipe claims that Didier Deschamps was thinking, on Tuesday evening, about the prospect of replacing Nkunku. While Wissam Ben Yedder is another natural candidate, the coach could turn to Randal Kolo Muani of Eintracht Frankfurt.
