Manchester United midfielder Christian Eriksen has confirmed that he wasn’t close to moving to Old Trafford during his time at Tottenham.

Man United were regularly linked with moves to lure Eriksen from Spurs some seasons ago and there were reports claiming that Daniel Levy, Tottenham chairman didn’t like the idea of selling their key player to direct Premier League rivals.

Regardless, Eriksen to Manchester United made transfer headlines until he eventually left Spurs to join Antonio Conte at Inter Milan, where he would go on to win the Serie A.

Man United eventually got their long-term transfer target over the summer when Erik ten Hag offered him a two-year contract after the Denmark international’s superb loan spell at Brentford.

The former Tottenham midfielder is a regular at Old Trafford and when asked whether he was close to making a move to United from Spurs, he said: “No, not really. At the time I didn’t want to go. But this time, I had a chance and, of course, I wanted to go, and it was different.”

“When I was with Spurs, there was talks [with Manchester United] back and forth, but in the end it didn’t work out.”

Christian Eriksen is expected to be in the Manchester United squad that will face Fulham on Sunday evening in the Premier League.

He’s also called up by Denmark’s national coach and will be part of the squad heading to Qatar later this month.
