Chelsea’s January acquisition, Malo Gusto, will continue his rehabilitation with the club after a hamstring injury cut his loan spell at Lyon short. Despite becoming Chelsea’s seventh acquisition in the January transfer window, Gusto was loaned back to Lyon to gain more playing time. However, the 19-year-old defender’s stint with the Ligue 1 side was short-lived after he suffered an injury in a match against Troyes in early February.

As a result, Gusto returned to Chelsea for rehabilitation at the club’s Cobham training facilities. The young right-back missed Lyon’s match against Lens, with Lyon manager Laurent Blanc confirming that the injury had not caused a tear, but that Gusto was still experiencing discomfort.

Chelsea, however, took no chances and called the defender back to the club for treatment with their medical staff. A statement released by Chelsea read, “Malo Gusto is to spend time at Cobham rehabilitating from an injury. The right-back, who signed for Chelsea in January, returned on loan to his previous club Lyon but having now been ruled out of action, he is expected to remain in England for a period of time under the supervision of our medical staff.”

Despite the injury setback, Gusto had managed to add two more appearances to the 15 he had made for Lyon earlier in the season prior to his signing for Chelsea. While it remains to be seen how long Gusto will be out for, Chelsea fans will undoubtedly be hoping that their promising young signing makes a full recovery soon and can return to the pitch.
