Chelsea could get Financial Fair Play Sanctions after their most recent signings
It is no news how incessant Chelsea have been in their signing as it could now come back to bite them. The London side just completed their 18th signing of the Todd Boehly era in less than one year.
The new Chelsea ownership have set out for a total overhaul, with youth players being their main focus; Casadei, Chukwuemeka, Hutchinson, Fofana, Santos, Wesley Fofana, Slonina, Mudryk and the latest recruit Madueke are some of the young players that have joined Chelsea recently
Chelsea announced in the late hours of Friday that the club have completed the signing of PSV winger, Noni Madueke. The 20 years old joined Chelsea on permanent deal for package close to €35m package on a long term.
Following the recent ongoings, Chelsea have been accused of using long-term deals to cheat FFP rules, Where each of these new signings have been offered very long term contracts.
Ukraine winger Mykhailo Mudryk signed for eight-and-a-half years and French defender Benoit Badiashile for six-and-a-half years this month, after the arrivals of Wesley Fofana and Marc Cucurella on seven- and six-year deals respectively last summer
According to FIFA statutes, clubs are only permitted to give players contracts of up to five years, but Chelsea have been routinely handing out far longer deals this season.
Chelsea have got round FIFA’s restrictions by registering the additional years in each player’s contract as a club-triggered option to extend, but some of their Premier League rivals are convinced this is really a ruse to circumnavigate FFP.
The £88m Mudryk fee will therefore cost Chelsea just £10m a year when they submit their accounts to the Premier League for FFP monitoring at the end of the season.
Todd Boehly have spent a Premier League-record £416million on new players this season, an incredible outlay which has been possible only due to accounting rules that permit transfer fees to be spread across the duration of a player’s contract for FFP purposes.
