Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga heaped praise on teammate Benoit Badiashile after his standout display in Friday’s goalless draw against Fulham.
The West London club fired 20 shots on goal, but it was their defensive solidity that was most impressive, with the French international playing a key role.
Badiashile made two interceptions and three recoveries in the match, and was also instrumental in Chelsea’s build-up play, completing seven passes into the final third – more than Reece James and Marc Cucurella combined.
Arrizabalaga was full of admiration for the 21-year-old, saying: “He’s a very good guy, very calm. He’s got big quality with the ball and is strong in the air. I think he’s playing a big part in the team and hopefully, we can keep doing like this.”
It is a shame that Badiashile will miss out on the Champions League as clubs were only able to register three new players, but it is clear that Graham Potter will be heavily relying on him in the remaining league fixtures.
In conclusion, Badiashile’s emergence as a key player in the Chelsea defense is a positive sign for the club and one that suggests he has a bright future ahead of him.
