Chelsea are said to be looking to renew Brazilian international Thiago Silva’s contract and keep him longer with the club.
According to sources close to the club, Chelsea Football Club has initiated negotiations with experienced central defender Thiago Silva regarding a contract extension. Silva’s current deal with the Blues is set to expire at the end of the current season, but the club has expressed a strong interest in retaining the veteran Brazilian.
Silva originally joined Chelsea as a free agent from Paris Saint-Germain in August 2020 on a one-year deal with an option for a second year, which he exercised in June 2021. The club has now communicated its intention for Silva to remain at Stamford Bridge for at least another 12 months and there is a sense of confidence that a deal will be reached soon.
The 38-year-old has already discussed his future with various outlets and expressed his desire for clarification on his contract situation as soon as possible. Silva stated, “I need to know whether I will have a new contract with Chelsea, also for my family arrangements. It is not easy if I don’t have a new contract, I will have to decide what to do. This is an important decision and so we will see what will happen.”
Since joining Chelsea three years ago, Silva has been a remarkably consistent signing for the club. During his tenure, he has played a key role in guiding the team to a Champions League title, a UEFA Super Cup, and a FIFA Club World Cup.
