Ronald Araujo will be passed fit in time for Saturday’s La Liga return game against Espanyol at Camp Nou.
After joining the Uruguay squad in Qatar for the World Cup, the Uruguayan defender’s recovery has gained attention and worries from Barcelona. Araujo however did not play any single minute in the tournament, as Uruguay’s early withdrawal put an end to Barcelona’s fears that his recovery might be rushed back.
Following his return to Barcelona, the club’s medical team gave him a few days off since the club was concerned that he was feeling the strain of the situation and wanted to get back on the field as soon as possible. However, the player has recently started training with the club and has shown tremendous progress.
Now it is established that the Uruguayan international will be cleared medically in time for the league return and Catalan derby. He’ll be in the matchday squad, but it’s unclear whether he’ll play.
Club manager Xavi has expressed his delight that his team is coming together and that the pandemonium in his defensive line would be brought under control with the return of Araujo. It is unknown who will start at center back for the derby but Araujo will be on every fan’s radar.
For the first time since his arrival, Xavi will have no injured players. Of course, Robert Lewandowski is suspended and other players who returned from the World Cup may be given a rest from the match.
