According to bookmaker William Hill, the favourite for US Open 2016 in the men’s singles is Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic who won the tournament in both 2011 and 2015. The odds on him picking up another US Open title are as short as 5/4.
Andy Murray’s isn’t far behind in the betting and the chances of the Brit winning the trophy are estimated around the 7/4 mark. Whilst the third favourite is Canadian Milos Raonic at much bigger odds of 12/1.
Behind Raonic is Argentine Juan Martin del Potro who is rated as a 14/1 shot.
The favourite for the women’s singles is six-time US Open champion Serena Williams and she stands as a general 7/5 shot. German-Polish player Angelique Kerber is the second favourite alongside Romanian Simona Halep at 8/1, while Spaniard Garbiñe Muguruza can be backed around the 10/1 mark.
Remember that in the 2015 US Open, Novak Djokovic defeated Roger Federer in four sets (6: 4, 5: 7, 6: 4, 6: 4) in the men’s tournament whilst in the women’s singles, Italian Flavia Pennetta beat her compatriot Roberta Vinci in straight sets (7: 6, 6: 2).
