Pollok FC v Neilston – two teams from the lower echelons of Scottish football – isn’t usually a fixture that’s on everyone’s mind. In fact, like hundreds of football matches that take place across the UK each week, it’s a game between two teams who’re virtually unheard of. However, after right-back Tom Hanlon scored a memorable hat-trick, something that certainly hasn’t gone unnoticed, this little-known fixture has become big news.

Right-backs aren’t usually known for their goal-scoring prowess, although this certainly didn’t stop Tom Hanlon as he scored two expertly executed free-kicks either side of a long-range screamer that found the top-corner of the net.

Some people say that a ‘perfect hat-trick’ consists of left foot, right foot, header, although after seeing this they might change their mind. And it’d probably be a safe bet to say Pollok’s right-back now thinks differently!
