Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was left frustrated by his team’s inability to maintain their two-goal lead during their 2-2 draw with Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday. The Gunners missed the chance to extend their lead over Manchester City to eight points, which could prove costly in their quest for a top-four finish.

While Arteta acknowledged that his side were in control of the game in the first half, he was critical of their inability to see out the victory. Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, he said, “Wow. Very intense game. The game was under control but after that we conceded a really sloppy goal and the game shifted momentum.”

Despite Arsenal starting the second half brightly, they lost control of the game, which became very transitional and chaotic. Arteta admitted that Liverpool could have scored three or four goals, while Arsenal had chances to score two or three of their own.

“We should do that [play like the first half] for another 15 minutes and then the game would have taken a very different trajectory. We didn’t. We have to take the point,” Arteta added.

Arsenal will now fix their focus on West Ham as they look to keep up the fight at the top of the League.
