In what could be a significant transfer move, Arsenal Football Club is reportedly setting its sights on Portugal’s international talent, Joao Cancelo, during the upcoming summer transfer window. According to The Telegraph , the Gunners are eager to bolster their squad to compete on all fronts in the coming season.

Mikel Arteta, the Spanish mastermind at the helm of Arsenal, is expected to receive substantial financial backing, with the club rumored to be ready to provide him with a whopping £200m war chest. This financial backing is intended to empower Arteta to secure his preferred targets as he seeks to reinforce the midfield, attack, and defense.

The Telegraph’s report highlights Arsenal’s urgent need to reinforce their right-back position, particularly in light of Takehiro Tomiyasu’s recent injury concerns. Consequently, the Gunners have swiftly turned their attention to Joao Cancelo as an ideal candidate to address this void.

However, there are concerns that Arsenal may face opposition from Manchester City, as the Premier League champions have previously sold key players, including Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko, to the North London club. This potential hurdle could complicate negotiations for Cancelo’s acquisition.

Currently, Cancelo is on loan at Bayern Munich, with an option for the German giants to make the full-back’s move permanent for £62m at the conclusion of this season. However, reports suggest that Bayern are unlikely to exercise this option, leaving the door open for other clubs, including Arsenal, to make their move.

With Arsenal’s aspirations to regain their competitive edge, securing the services of Joao Cancelo would undoubtedly provide a significant boost.
