Arsenal Manager Mikel Arteta has provided an update on the injury status of two of his key players ahead of their upcoming Premier League clash against Aston Villa.

Emile Smith Rowe, who has struggled with injuries this season, is set to return to the squad after missing the team’s last four games due to a thigh injury. The young midfielder has only managed six appearances this season due to an injury-ridden start to the campaign, which saw him undergo surgery for a groin problem in September.

Speaking at the pre-game press conference, Arteta confirmed that the 22-year-old was training with the team and will be available for selection, provided he doesn’t suffer any setbacks. Arteta said, “Emile is training today, and if he’s fine, he’ll be in the squad.”

However, the news wasn’t as positive for midfielder Thomas Partey, who could be a doubt for the game due to muscular discomfort. Partey picked up the injury before Arsenal’s recent defeat to Manchester City and was left out of the squad as a precautionary measure.

Arteta admitted that the situation with Partey was uncertain and that the Ghanaian international would be assessed again before the game. “We have to assess him again today. He has some muscle discomfort, and we have to see how he is,” Arteta said.

If Partey is ruled out, it would be a significant blow for Arsenal, who are already dealing with a shortage of midfield options. Granit Xhaka and Jorginho are the only two senior midfielders available for selection, and Arteta may have to rely on the latter to step up again if Partey fails to recover in time.

Jorginho, who started his first game for Arsenal in their recent match against Manchester City, impressed with his defensive contributions and composure in midfield. The Italian midfielder could be in line for another start at Villa Park should Partey miss out again.

In addition to Partey, Gabriel Jesus and Mohamed Elneny are also currently receiving treatment in the Arsenal medical room.
