In an exclusive column by the renowned football journalist Fabrizio Romano, it has come to light that Arsenal’s interest in Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz persists, despite their failed attempt to secure his services in September 2022.

The Gunners notably made an effort to bring Luiz to the Emirates last year, but the deal never materialized. However, with the summer signing of Declan Rice, Arsenal’s midfield options are robust. Nevertheless, their admiration for the Brazilian midfielder has not waned.

Douglas Luiz has certainly made a significant impact during his time at Villa Park, catching the attention of several clubs. Romano reports that he remains a subject of interest and is being closely monitored by various teams.

While it’s uncertain whether Arsenal will reignite their pursuit of Luiz, Romano highlights a recurring trend at the club. Just as with their ongoing interest in Wolves winger Pedro Neto, Arsenal tends to keep tabs on players they’ve previously targeted.

As Romano explains, “As I recently reported, Arsenal has been keeping an eye on Pedro Neto for some time, and I can also say that Arsenal consistently monitors players they’ve shown interest in, and Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz is among them. He’s always been highly regarded.”

It’s worth noting that Arsenal faced rejection when they made bids for Luiz in September 2022, and he subsequently committed to a new contract with Villa, which now runs until 2026. He has become a pivotal figure in Villa’s squad, making any potential transfer a complex endeavor. Nevertheless, Luiz’s quality is appreciated by many top clubs, adding further intrigue to his footballing future.
