Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey’s injury concerns were compounded after being left out of Ghana’s starting XI during their African Cup of Nations qualifier against Angola, which ended in a 1-1 draw.

The Ghanaian international played the full 90 minutes in the previous encounter with Angola but was deemed unfit to feature due to “small injury issues,” according to Ghana’s manager, Chris Hughton.

Partey’s absence from the national team was a precautionary measure to prevent any further aggravation to his injury concerns. Hughton cited that it was too big a risk to start the 28-year-old in the match. The extent and nature of Partey’s injury were not disclosed.

,“Thomas has some small injury issues. We felt it was too big a risk to start him.” he said.

Arsenal will be closely monitoring Partey’s injury situation with the Premier League run-in set to resume on Saturday against Leeds United.

The Gunners, currently sit top of the league with 8 points clear off defending champions Manchester City.
