Arsenal Football Club has secured the long-term future of one of its most exciting prospects, with Gabriel Martinelli putting pen to paper on a new four-and-a-half-year contract, which includes the option for an additional year.

The 21-year-old had been set to enter the final year of his previous deal, but the Gunners have acted quickly to secure the Brazilian forward’s services until 2027.

Martinelli has been a standout performer for the North London club since his arrival from Brazilian side Ituano in July 2019. In 111 appearances across all competitions, he has notched 25 goals, including seven in 27 games so far this season. The talented forward was also a part of the Brazil squad that participated in the World Cup in Qatar.

On Martinelli’s new deal, Gunners sporting director Edu said: “It’s great that Gabi has signed a new contract with us. The foundations of our squad continue to be built on young talent, so it’s great that Gabi has signed a new contract”

“Gabi is still just 21, and a player with big ability and personality. He is an important part of our future and we’re delighted that we have agreed a new contract.”

The news of Martinelli’s contract extension is a huge boost for manager Mikel Arteta, who will now be able to rely on one of his most influential attackers for the foreseeable future.

The Gunners will hope to continue their impressive form on Saturday, as they travel to Goodison Park to take on Everton. A win there would move them eight points clear at the top of the Premier League table.
