In a bid to fortify their midfield options, Arsenal has set their sights on Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz and Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi for the upcoming summer transfer window.

Sources close to the club reveal that securing these two players is a top priority for Arsenal’s recruitment strategy.

According to football journalist Graeme Bailey via HITC, Arsenal’s interest in Luiz and Zubimendi has intensified in recent weeks. Luiz, a standout performer at Aston Villa, has drawn attention with his commanding presence in midfield, while Zubimendi’s technical prowess and vision have impressed scouts.

Dean Jones disclosed earlier in the season that Luiz’s valuation stands at approximately £70 million. Meanwhile, reports from The Athletic confirm that Zubimendi possesses a release clause of £50 million in his contract with Real Sociedad.

The potential combined cost of £120 million for both players could present a significant financial investment for Arsenal. However, given the club’s ambition to reinforce their squad and compete at the highest level, such expenditure may be deemed necessary.

Arsenal’s midfield has been a focal point for improvement, particularly in light of Thomas Partey’s inconsistent form and injury setbacks. Securing the services of Luiz and Zubimendi would provide manager Mikel Arteta with greater depth and quality in midfield, addressing a key area of concern for the team.

While Arsenal boasts a solid defensive unit and potent attacking options, the addition of Luiz and Zubimendi could provide the missing link in midfield, offering both defensive stability and creativity in possession. The prospect of pairing Luiz alongside Declan Rice, along with Zubimendi’s technical abilities, excites Arsenal fans and pundits alike.

However, Arsenal’s pursuit of these targets may hinge on their ability to offload surplus players to balance the books. Despite their financial resources, prudent management of the transfer budget remains a priority for the club.
