Arsenal are said to be making progress in their pursuit of Athletico Paranaense’s highly rated 18-year-old forward Vitor Roque. According to reports from Globo Esporte, the Gunners have held a meeting with Roque’s representatives in London.

The teenage sensation has been linked with several clubs in recent months, with Arsenal emerging as one of the frontrunners in the race for his signature. The club’s technical director, Edu Gaspar, is believed to have been in contact with Roque’s camp since February.

Roque’s agents and father have been in Europe holding talks with interested parties, including Arsenal. While no bids have yet been tabled, it is understood that the player’s representatives are anticipating a fee in excess of €42m.

Barcelona are also said to be monitoring Roque’s situation, along with two other Premier League sides who have reportedly pledged to make offers in the summer transfer window.

Arsenal, however, may hold an advantage in the race for Roque, having reportedly been tracking the player for some time and are understood to be well aware of the asking price.

While no bid has yet been made, the Gunners appear to be making moves towards securing the highly-rated youngster’s signature.
