Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Japanese winger Kaoru Mitoma from Brighton.
Arsenal are reportedly targeting another acquisition from Brighton & Hove Albion, as they look to secure the services of Japanese sensation Kaoru Mitomo. The 25-year-old forward has been making waves in the Premier League, having scored five goals in all competitions, and leaving an indelible mark on the field with his recent match-winning displays.
Mitoma has found the back of the net in three consecutive matches, including a late winner that sent Brighton through to the FA Cup fifth round at the expense of Liverpool. He also scored a dramatic goal in Brighton’s 1-0 victory over Bournemouth on the weekend, sending his side to sixth place in the table.
It’s no secret that the Japanese international has been attracting interest from several top clubs, and the Gunners seem to have taken note. Manager Mikel Arteta got a close-up view of Mitomo’s talents when he scored past Aaron Ramsdale in Arsenal’s 4-2 win over Brighton on New Year’s Eve.
Brighton acquired Mitoma for just £2.7 million from Japanese club Kawasaki Frontale in 2021, and he has since established himself as one of the brightest prospects in the Premier League. According to journalist Fabrizio Romano In his Daily briefing of the Caught Offside column , the north London club will have to pay at least £35 million to secure the signature of the 13-cap international.
While Mitoma is reportedly focusing on Brighton and not considering any big moves at the moment, Romano stated that “he’s already worth more than £35 million”. The Italian journalist praised Brighton’s recruitment abilities, calling Mitomo “another gem who is in great form at the moment”.
This is not the first time Arsenal have raided the Amex Stadium, having already signed Belgian winger Leandro Trossard for a fee that could rise to £27 million in January.
They also attempted to sign midfielder Moises Caicedo, with two bids of £60 million and £70 million being rejected in the winter transfer window.
