In anticipation of the much-anticipated North London derby, Tottenham Hotspur has had to deliver unfortunate news regarding the status of their star player, Ivan Perisic.

The Croatian winger, who arrived at Tottenham from Inter Milan on a free transfer last season, faces an extended period on the sidelines due to a debilitating Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury in his right knee.

Perisic’s adaptability on the field has been one of his key attributes during his time at Tottenham. Under the stewardship of former manager Antonio Conte, he was primarily deployed as a wing-back, contributing significantly to the team’s eighth-place finish in the Premier League.

However, since Ange Postecoglou took charge at Tottenham, Perisic’s role has undergone a noticeable transformation. He has transitioned into a squad player, typically operating as a winger in a 4-3-3 formation. Despite this shift, he showcased his value this season, making six appearances, including a pivotal performance off the bench against Sheffield United.

Despite accumulating 50 appearances for Tottenham, Perisic has managed to find the back of the net only once during his tenure at the club.

The ramifications of Perisic’s injury extend beyond Tottenham’s domestic campaign. It casts a shadow of doubt over his availability for the upcoming European Championships. The Croatian international, with an impressive 129 caps for his country, will be sorely missed by both his club and national team.

Adding to the complexity of the situation is Perisic’s age, as he is set to turn 35 in February, and his contract, which is set to expire in the summer. This unfortunate injury has led to speculation about whether he has played his final match in a Tottenham jersey.
