According to a recent report from La Repubblica, it appears that Italian international Nicolò Zaniolo’s future at AS Roma is uncertain.

The 23-year-old’s contract with the club expires in 2024, and there are currently slim chances of it being renewed. This has led to interest from a number of clubs, including Arsenal and Newcastle United.

It is understood that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has been a long-time admirer of Zaniolo and talks have reportedly opened over a potential deal that would be worth between €30-40m.

Newcastle United, who are currently third in the Premier League, are also said to be keen on the young player as they look to reinforce their squad in their quest for Champions League football.

However, it should be noted that any potential suitors would need to convince Zaniolo, who until recently had rejected foreign offers as his goal was to stay in Italy. Serie A giants AC Milan and Juventus are also said to be monitoring the situation, but their plan is to wait until the summer to evaluate a possible negotiation. If Zaniolo were to leave in January, it would provide Roma with the necessary liquidity to sign new players such as Frattesi from Sassuolo, as well as potentially reinforcing their defence.
