Arsenal have gone five points ahead of Manchester City at the Premier League summit following a commanding win over Wolves at the Molineux Stadium.

Man City lavished a chance to go at the top of the league when they succumbed to a disappointing 2-1 defeat to Brentford at the Etihad Stadium earlier today. Ivan Toney scored twice to turn Phil Foden’s first half equaliser into consolation goal.

Arsenal took advantage of City’s fluke when they beat Wolves 2-0 away from home and returned to the Emirates Stadium with all three points.

Martin Odegaard scored both goals in the second half to hand the Gunners their 12th win from 14 matches in the Premier League this season so far.

Elsewhere in London, Tottenham emerged victor in a seven-goal thriller at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Spurs made three comebacks before eventually winning the game 4-3.

Chelsea succumbed to a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Newcastle United at the St James’ Park and the Blues’ performance was nothing to write home about as they looked lost in the entirety of the game.

Liverpool maintained their momentum with a comfortable 3-1 win over Southampton at Anfield to move closer to fifth-place Manchester United, who will be in action on Sunday evening against Fulham at Craven Cottage.
